Les houles de Huahine

One day, while we were anchored at the south end of Huahine, a large swell arrived from the southwest, crashing on the reef around us.We were well protected inside the lagoon, but the thundering roar coming from the reef was an irresistible allure. Besides, it was a beautiful, partially cloudy afternoon with a lovely golden light coming from the west.

I took the dinghy and motored across the mile-wide sandbank that separated us from the reef, where the waves were breaking. Dangling on the dinghy, camera on hand, I snapped a few dozen pictures of the waves, a few of which I selected to post here:

A few days later, I joined the kids and some friends of ours on the reef. While they surfed, I shot images of the waves washing over me. Here’s the video:
