Learning by doing

Raquel decided to try the paddle board by herself.

She is so brave, of course we would let carry forward with her decision

But then, a puff of wind started to blow. And took her away. Farther then she could paddle back (against the wind)

We had three options to rescue her. Lift anchor and go with Pesto (quite an overshoot), put the dinghy down on the water to get her (too complicated), or send one of the adults overboard to swim for her, and paddle her back in (the most painful, but easiest of the three).

Guess who went in the water:

I wisely didn't try the water before jumping, If i did, Raquel might be down in Everett by now, some 25 miles south of Blake Island
Luckily I did NOT try the water temperature before jumping. If i did, Raquel might have drifted down to Tacoma, some 25 miles south of where we were

—– EDIT: 48 HOURS LATER —–

Two days later, we were anchored at a very tranquil, small harbor. The wind died and the water was still as glass.

Adriana and I seized the opportunity and encouraged Raquel to try the board once more. After a little reluctancy, off she went:

She paddle confidently. And this time there was nothing stopping her.

She paddled for a good 40 minutes. And returned satisfied and proud of herself.

Then it was Adriana’s turn. She hadn’t tried the board yet:

It was almost dusk when Paulo also decided to give it a try:

From now on, i suspect there will be a permanent wait line for the rights of use of the Paddle Board whenever we hit tranquil waters.
